The configure scripts seems to build for m32 on a 64bit RedHat environment.
Are there instructions to override this behaviour anywhere - presuming
that 64bit TDS is viable!

FreeTDS works in 64-bit, absolutely. The configure script doesn't
prescribe a compiler or compiler settings. Use your PATH and
CFLAGS to make sure configure finds the right toolchain.
